Floods: Four relief centres close, seven remain open with 528 victims in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: Four flood relief centres in Sipitang and Keningau have been closed as the water level receded and victims were allowed to return home.

As of 8pm Wednesday (Nov 2), seven shelters - namely five in Tenom and one each in Kunak and Beaufort districts - are still operational, housing 528 flood victims, according to the state disaster management committee.

“There are 28 individuals in Kampung Airport Batu 10 hall in Kunak and 57 in DSP Dun Banir hall in Beaufort at present.

“In Tenom, the Pagukon cultural house housed the largest number of flood victims at 214, followed by Makakagas cultural house (117), Tenom sports complex (50), Gunting cultural house (33) and Kalang Kanar (29),” said the committee.

Earlier on Wednesday, the number of flood victims placed at the 11 shelters reached 1,001.

Several areas in Sabah saw flooding due to intermittent downpours from Sunday (Oct 30) to Tuesday (Nov 1).
