GE15: Hishammuddin's 'wo ai ni' a hit with Sembrong crowd

KLUANG: Barisan Nasional candidate for Sembrong, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s simple greeting in Mandarin drew cheers from the Chinese community at an event here.

The caretaker Defence Minister received a positive reaction when he said wo ai ni (I love you) in Mandarin as he introduced himself at a fundraising dinner organised by SJKC Kampung Gajah on Saturday (Nov 5) night.

The crowd in Kampung Gajah cheered again when he joked that he was "the most good-looking candidate."

After that, event attendees of various ages could be seen taking selfies with Hishammuddin who happily obliged.

According to the event organiser, the programme managed to raise about RM40,000 which would go to the primary school’s upgrade.

Johor investment, trade and consumer affairs committee chairman Lee Ting Han, who was also present at the event, appealed to the voters to choose a stable government so that the country’s economic recovery could be a smooth one.

"The state government and Federal Government should be aligned in order to achieve better developments.

"The past four years, when the country faced political instability, many developments that are beneficial to the people and the nation hit various road bumps.

"Let’s not allow a repeat of that," said the Paloh assemblyman.

The Sembrong parliamentary seat is a three-cornered contest in the 15th General Election involving Hishammuddin (Barisan), Johor PKR secretary-general Hasni Abas (Pakatan Harapan) and Aziz Ismail (Perikatan Nasional).
