GE15: The Opposition is misleading the people, says Dr Wee

AYER HITAM: The Opposition has run out of tactics which is why it has resorted to misleading the people about Barisan Nasional’s choice of candidate for the prime minister's post, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president reiterated that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was Barisan’s choice for the position should the coalition win the 15th General Election.

"This has been decided at the recent Umno general assembly and supreme council where 156 of its divisions supported the motion to keep him as Barisan’s poster boy for prime minister.

"Nothing has changed since then and there is also no confusion about this issue.

"The Opposition is just doing what it does to win, which is by misleading the people," the told a press conference after attending a community anti-drugs programme here on Sunday (Nov 6).

The Transport Minister was asked to comment on the Opposition’s narrative of "one vote for Barisan is equal to one vote for Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi."

He said under Article 43(2)(a), the prime minister must be an MP who, in the judgment of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was likely to command the confidence of the majority of the members of the Dewan Rakyat.

"The King has to be satisfied that the MP can command the support of 112 seats in the dewan in order to form a government.

"We should focus our energy and efforts on winning GE15 before we can form a strong and stable government to bring prosperity to the people, just like how it was done in Johor after the recent state election.

"With a strong mandate from the people, the Johor government attracted an investment value of RM60.9bil in the first six month of the year, the highest in the country, and the state has set an example for us to emulate on the federal level," Dr Wee added.
