GUA MUSANG: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, already the longest-serving MP from Barisan Nasional, is set to stretch his tenure even longer as he goes for a 13th term by defending his Gua Musang parliamentary seat.
Tengku Razaleigh, better known as Ku Li, said his services were still needed in Gua Musang, especially by the Orang Asli community who want him to contest.
“In GE15, I will face three Opposition candidates from PAS, Pejuang and PKR, but I am not afraid and am ready to take them on and defend the Gua Musang parliamentary seat,” he said.
The PAS candidate is Datuk Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, while Dr Samsu Adabi Mamat will represent Pejuang and Asharun Uji will contest on a PKR ticket.
“I pledge to continue ensuring the welfare of the people and the development of this constituency,” said the 85-year-old Tengku Razaleigh when met by reporters here yesterday.
Earlier, he was accompanied by over 2,000 Barisan supporters, including the Orang Asli community, to the nomination centre at the Gua Musang District and Land Office.
Tengku Razaleigh first contested the Ulu Kelantan parliamentary seat (now known as the Gua Musang parliamentary seat) in 1974 and is the longest-serving MP in the country, having served for 12 terms.
In GE14, he won the seat with a majority of 3,913 votes against two others from PAS and PKR.
