KUALA SELANGOR: The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) recently launched a career carnival to create more job opportunities for Malaysians to reduce the overall unemployment rate in our country.
Held on Nov 3 at 1 Plaza here, the Karnival Kerjaya Jamin Kerja Keluarga Malaysia 2022 offered 5,643 job opportunities from 26 employers in various sectors such as telecommunications, hospitality, manufacturing, retail and F&B.
The event, organised by the Human Resources Ministry through Perkeso, was launched by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz who said that such events are a reflection of the government’s dedication to increase job opportunities and strengthen the labour force not just in Selangor, but in the country as well.
“This carnival, which is organised nationwide, is among the government’s efforts to ensure that job seekers – especially the youth – get work opportunities.
“This will help to address the issue of unemployment and loss of income experienced by Malaysian families following the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Tengku Zafrul.
The Karnival Kerjaya here was one of three career fairs held last week, with the other two in Batang Kali (Hulu Selangor) and Tapah (Perak). Over 6000 job opportunities were created at Batang Kali, while more than 4,000 were offered at Tapah.
Tengku Zafrul added that these initiatives have helped to lower the unemployment rate in our country to 3.7% as of August 2022, from 4.6% last year.
Perkeso chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the organisation is actively working on combatting unemployment, as they have launched many initiatives to create job possibilities for Malaysians.
“Workshops and marketability courses have been held to educate job seekers on the basics of communication, personality development, interview skills and industry training, as well as exposure to the gig economy and freelancing.
“To date, 433 marketability programmes have been organised both virtually and physically,” he said.
He added that Perkeso runs the MYFutureJobs national employment portal which offers proper channels for job seekers to find work more efficiently, as the portal currently has 293,878 active job vacancies listed throughout the country, with 85,349 vacancies in Selangor and 13,134 in Perak.
As of Oct 14 this year, the portal has successfully aided almost 653,000 job seekers in the country.
He shared that Perkeso has introduced the Housewife Social Security Scheme (SKSSR), which will be implemented by the Human Resources Ministry through Perkeso, starting Dec 1 this year.
This scheme aims to safeguard the welfare and protect housewives from domestic difficulties and is expected to benefit more than 200,000 women around Malaysia.
