Cambodian faints and rescued while scaling Mount Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: A Cambodian fainted while scaling Mount Kinabalu and had to be piggy-backed down early Thursday (Nov 10) morning.

The 30-year-old woman was said to have just started her climb towards the summit when she passed out at KM6.3 near the Pendant Hut.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said they received a call about the incident at around 3am.

“Our mountain search and rescue team, together with mountain guides and Sabah Parks staff responded to provide assistance,” he said in a statement.

He said a rescuer had to piggy-back her down to the Sick Bay Hut before further preparations were made to carry her to the mountain base.

“She regained consciousness along the way,” Misran said, adding the woman was later given preliminary treatment.

He said upon reaching Timpohon Gate at the base of the mountain, the woman declined an offer to be taken to the hospital for further treatment.

“Medical officials checked on her and she was reported to be in stable condition,” he said.

He said operations ended at around 11am.
