Dr M: I can’t go back to Umno

SHAH ALAM: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has ruled out returning to Umno.

“The objective of Umno is to serve the country and its people.

“However, the current Umno’s objective is to ‘serve money’. It was not what it once was,” he said during Pejuang’s Rafique Rashid’s campaign trail in Seksyen 24.

He was asked if he would return to Umno if its party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stepped down.

He also said that Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) will announce its manifesto later on Thursday (Nov 10),

“What we promise is an efficient and trustworthy government,” said the GTA head and Pejuang chairman.

He also said there was a need for older politicians to assist young politicians to guide them, while constructing a stable and fair government.

GTA also comprises Pejuang, Parti Bumiputra Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) and Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional (Iman).

Rafique is in a four-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional’s Isham Jalil, Azli Yusof (Pakatan Harapan) and Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Afif Bahardin for the Shah Alam seat.
