Floods: More victims in Klang evacuated


PETALING JAYA: A total of 221 people were evacuated following flash floods in several areas in Selangor, bringing the total number of victims to 719 on Saturday (Nov 12).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the latest evacuation involved four areas in Meru, Klang.

"Relocation of 221 residents involved four locations, which are SK Binjai (170), Meru Indah (five), Sekolah Rendah Agama Meru (19) and Rantau Panjang (27).

"In total, the victims have been evacuated to seven temporary relief centres (PPS). Among the PPS are SK Sungai Binjai, Meru (628), SRA Meru (19), Masjid Al-Falah (41), Dewan Orang Ramai Meru (four), SK Sungai Sireh and Dewan Rantau Panjang," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Firemen from six fire stations have been deployed for various rescue operations, he said.

He added that overall, 127 personnel, 12 boats, and 20 fire engines among others have been deployed for flood operations.
