Hasni has done so much for Johor, says MB Onn Hafiz

SIMPANG RENGGAM: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has paid tribute to his predecessor, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad, saying he has done so much for the state.

The Machap assemblyman said that some two years ago, Johor was facing not only a health crisis, but also a food crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“At that time, I was a state executive councillor under Hasni, who was my boss. Hasni had made plans to turn Johor into Malaysia's main agriculture producer to address food security and make the state a food bank.

“Hasni has made many contributions to the state where through his vast experience, he has left a legacy that I will continue,” Onn Hafiz added.

He said this in his speech at the launching of the Johor Agro Carnival 2022 at Simpang Renggam Wawasan Trade Centre here on Saturday (Nov 12).

Hasni, who is the state Umno and Barisan Nasional chairman, is in a four-cornered fight for the Simpang Renggam parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Onn Hafiz added that the close cooperation between him and Hasni would help Johor to reach its target to become a developing state by 2030.

He said the agriculture sector was one of the key areas the state government is looking at expanding, which would drive its economy to turn Johor into a developed state.

“We want to increase our quality produce, which will increase revenue and create higher income among farmers.

“We have also identified several districts for the agriculture sector such as Segamat, which has been gazetted under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER), Muar, Tangkak, Kluang and Simpang Renggam,” he added.
