Candidates upping the ante in the last lap

KUALA TERENGGANU: GE15 candidates and their party election machinery here are pulling out all the stops to woo voters ahead of polling day.

Marang Umno division chief Datuk Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku said they will make use of the remaining days to visit areas they had yet to reach out to, expressing concern however over first-time voters.

“The current situation on the ground has improved. What we do is that we remind the people how PAS has won six times, but Marang is still far behind.

“My only concern right now is new voters because we have no clue about their direction. I hope they will follow their seniors and vote for Barisan,” he said.

Kelantan Perikatan Nasional election director Zulkifli Mamat is not taking any chances and will be meeting voters several times to drum in the coalition’s message.

“We have met with all of the communities in Kelantan. This will be our third time meeting them,” he said.

Zulkifli said they were adopting a more “mature” strategy to win over fence-sitters.

“We see everyone as our friend. When we like everyone, then people will like us. We will increase our efforts (to win voters) right up to the last minute,” he added.

Wanita PKR central communications director Noraini Nordin said it would be ramping up its presence on social media, as well as physical campaigns.

Its aim at the moment is to boost enthusiasm for voting among fence-sitters and young voters.

“During our campaign, we saw there are people in some areas who do not really care to vote. So now we are focusing on them, especially those in the Undi18 group who are not aware of their eligibility to vote.

“The younger generation has high demands. They want better salaries, a comfortable life, fast Internet – so they need to vote for the best candidates to ensure their needs can be fulfilled,” she said.
