Strong winds destroy 15 semi-concrete houses in Kudat


KOTA KINABALU: Strong winds blew off rooftops and destroyed some 15 semi-concrete houses at a water village in Kudat district early Monday (Nov 14).

The incident at Tanjung Kapur Tengah Kudat, saw around 15 families losing their homes following the 7am incident.

It is learnt that most of the affected families were already out at work or school, while some were out of their houses when strong winds started hitting and rattling the structures.

The destroyed structures were mainly made from plywood and zinc.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said they received a call at around 7.41am.

“Our officials went to check on the situation and found that no one was injured,” he said.

He said operations ceased at around 8.07am after inspections on hazard elements were complete.

The gusts of strong wind were believed to have lasted for several minutes.
