KUALA LUMPUR: Seven people were detained and 30 investigation papers (IPs) were opened during the campaign period for the 15th General Election (GE15) on Tuesday (Nov 15).

Bukit Aman GE15 Operations director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said three suspects were detained in Perak, two in Pahang and one each in Kelantan and Sarawak.

"We opened 30 IPs on Tuesday, including five in Perak, four each in Negri Sembilan and Kelantan, as well as three cases each in Sarawak, Pahang and Selangor.

"We are investigating the cases thoroughly to ensure that justice is served," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 16).

Of the 30 cases, 12 of the cases were for vandalising the posters and flags belonging to political parties and candidates, he added.

Comm Hazani said the police also issued 1,522 permits for "ceramah" (political talks) nationwide on Tuesday.

"The permits were issued in various states including 265 permits each were issued in Sabah and Sarawak, followed by Kedah (158), Kelantan (122), Johor (120) and Pahang (119).

"Only one ceramah was held without a permit, which was in Sarawak," he said.
