GE15: Perak Barisan, PKR ready to help transport voters to polling stations

IPOH: Barisan Nasional in Perak is on standby to provide assistance to voters on polling day in the form of transportation for them, especially in flood-hit areas.

Perak Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohd Ariff Abdul Majid, who is heading the general election team in Perak, said the floods in the state were not as critical as what usually happens in Terengganu and Kelantan during the monsoon period.

However, he said they have prepared boats in case the need arises, mostly for rural areas located in the northern part of Perak.

"At each division of the party especially, we have a squad handling matters pertaining to transportation.

"Not only boats, but we also have other vehicles ready as well to help those, especially senior citizens who do not have transport to get to the polling stations,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Mohd Ariff said his team has also identified people that may be requiring assistance in terms of transportation.

However, he declined to mention the numbers as well as the areas where assistance was required.

"Voters who require our assistance will get to hop on the vehicles and be brought to the polling stations without any charge,” he added.

Perak PKR’s operations room spokesman Dr Lee Boon Chye said each candidate from the party contesting in a specific area would make the necessary arrangements.

He said the candidates with the help of their team members would have identified areas where voters require help to get to polling stations.

"For flood-prone areas, or just anyone without transport that needs help to get to polling stations, the voters would have been identified by now,” he said.
