GE15: Rowdy crowd thwarts Pakatan attempts to plant flags at Kuala Nerus roundabout

KUALA NERUS: Eight Pakatan Harapan election workers, including a contesting candidate, were obstructed by a rowdy crowd when they tried to put up their party flags at the Batu 6 roundabout here on Tuesday (Nov 15) night.

Sources told The Star that Pakatan has been trying to put up its flags in the area - a PAS stronghold - since Monday (Nov 14), but they were prevented from doing so.

It is learnt that Pakatan's Kuala Nerus candidate Datuk Suhaimi Hashim was also part of the convoy that was forced to turn back last night.

"Previously, we put up 10 flags in Buluh Gading, the next day the flags were all gone.

"We wanted to put up flags at the Batu 6 roundabout because it is the most strategic location and we want people to know that even though we are outnumbered, we are still present.

"We lodged a covering report about our intention (to put up Pakatan flags), yet today when we arrived we were swarmed by an angry crowd.

"This is immature politics," a party source said, adding that they initially planned to put up 400 flags.

Checks by The Star at the location last night found PAS supporters gathering at an operation centre located near the roundabout.

A group of about 20 police officers was seen patrolling the area.
