GE15: Six Independent candidates band together to form loose coalition

PETALING JAYA: Six Independent candidates have joined hands to form a new alliance called Malaysia Bebas.

Suthan Mookaiah, an independent candidate contesting the Bangi seat, said Bebas aimed to voice out ideas and suggestions on new and existing policies to be formulated by the government.

The six Independent candidates are Suthan Mookaiah (Bangi), Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi (Putrajaya), Ramendran Ulaganathan (Kluang), M. Muneswaran Muthiah (Sepang), Wilfred Entika Rebai (Baram) and Micheal Lias (Kanowit).

Sutahn said there were 108 independent candidates vying to become MPs in GE15.

“By banding together, we can make our voices heard,” Suthan said at a press conference in Menara Simfoni, Seri Kembangan on Wednesday (Nov 16).

He added that Bebas aimed to work with the elected government so new policies made are more relevant and in tune with issues faced by the rakyat.

On the necessity of forming another coalition, the entrepreneur, who is also an adjunct associate professor with a private local university, said present political parties – although well organised – are at times outdated in terms of framework and policies.

They are also mired in political baggage and controversies, he added.

Suthan said Bebas, which has yet to be registered, is looking for members from different backgrounds, experiences and knowledge to join them.

“We consider ourselves a fluid independent bloc that will work together with all parties but remain as an independent voice.

“Any independent candidate who wants to strive for the betterment of the nation and has a strong sense of accountability, competency and professionalism can join,” he said.

Samsudin, who is the president of Persatuan Keselamatan Pengguna Kuala Lumpur (PKPKL), said he was looking to make the voices of consumers heard in Parliament if given the chance.

“I chose to contest because the many suggestions I have presented on how to counter the rising cost of living and consumer rights seem to have fallen on deaf ears,” said Samsudin, a resort owner.
