RAUB: A candidate's multilingual proficiency has somehow left the residents in stitches as he called for support at a Chinese new village here.
Lim Teck Hoe, who is contesting the Tras state seat on Barisan Nasional's ticket, is well-versed in English, Malay and Mandarin, including several dialects.
"When you want to share with me any local issues or problems, I can understand you in English, Malay, Mandarin, Hakka, Hokkien and Cantonese.
"You can tell me your problems in any language you prefer.
"But of course, if anyone talks bad about me if I lose in this seat, I will understand it, too," he said, drawing laughter from the audience.
Lim was at Kampung Sungai Ruan on Thursday (Nov 17) to meet and greet the residents in his campaign to be the Tras assemblyman in the 15th General Election (GE15).
With his excellent command in Malay, Lim also said he had no problems bringing forward or debating people's issues in the Pahang state assembly.
Lim, who is also Tras Chinese new village chief, said that it was normal to face difficulties when he tried to get village issues solved at the state government level.
"That's why I appeal for Tras residents to support me in this GE15 so that we can make a difference and make our home a better place."
Earlier, Lim also visited victims who were displaced after their houses were inundated following heavy rain in Kampung Ulu Gali, Kampung Tok Machang and Kampung Sungai Ruan.
"I'm thankful that no lives were lost but it's disheartening to see them like this.
"I hope we can find ways to solve the flash flood problems for these three villages," he added.
