GE15: Sepang candidates take time off from campaigning to visit flooded areas

SEVERAL areas in the Sepang constituency are flooded after continuous rain since the wee hours of Thursday (Nov 17).

One of the worst hit areas was in Kampung Seri Tanjung, Dengkil.

The 15th General Election candidates for the constituency took some time off their campaign schedule to visit the affected areas.

Pejuang’s Datin Paduka Che Asmah Ibrahim, who was supposed to be on a walkabout to meet voters in Medan Selera Seroja and Taman Seroja, went to Kampung Seri Tanjung instead.

She said the Sungai Langat river bund has failed, causing water to enter the village.

“Most flooding incidents in Sepang were caused by river bund failure.

“The river bunds have been repaired many times but they continue to fail. Clearly, the solution was not working.

“There is a need for a different approach to solve the problem at its source. The solution needs to be holistic and efficient,” she said.

Amanah’s Aiman Athirah was also seen visiting Kampung Seri Tanjung and its surrounding areas.

On Facebook, she posted that the water level in Sekolah Kebangsaan Tamil Dengkil rose to knee high, forcing students to return home from school.

Aiman also visited the disaster temporary evacuation centre-Dewan Komuniti Taman Gemilang and stated that 13 families affected by the floods from Kota Warisan and Dengkil have moved in.

Bersatu’s Rina Harun also posted on her Facebook that she was at Dewan Komuniti Taman Gemilang in the morning to observe the preparation to receive the flood victims.

Sepang IPD posted on the Traffic IPD Sepang Facebook page at about 8am that many roads were affected by flash floods; and that the traffic light junction between Cyberjaya heading towards Kuala Lumpur International Airport was closed because of it.
