HULU SELANGOR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has promised to kick out any members of his future Cabinet if they do not declare their assets.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman added that knowing candidates’ financial background and assets is essential before deciding whether to vote for them in the elections.

“All Pakatan candidates had to declare their assets. But for some, mainly from Barisan Nasional, we don’t know what their financial standing is.

“When we vote for the candidate, we should know how many companies he or she has, their shares and assets.

“If I become prime minister and if my ministers accumulate assets without declaring them, I will kick them out. That is a promise,” he said at a ceramah at Serendah Traders Square in Seri Serendah yesterday.

Anwar, who is also PKR president, noted that Pakatan candidate for Hulu Selangor Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan had to declare all his assets, including the 14 clinics he owns, before standing as a candidate.

“If the rakyat vote for Dr Sathia, they are voting for me to be prime minister.”

Dr Sathia is in a six-way fight against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk T. Mohan, Pejuang’s Harumaini Omar, Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Hasnizan Harun, Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s Haniza Talha and independent candidate Azlinda Baroni.

At the Taman Dato’ Haron food court in Petaling Jaya later in the day, Anwar criticised Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin for not declaring his assets ahead of GE15.

Anwar also explained the decision not to field Petaling Jaya incumbent Maria Chin Abdullah for GE15.

“She (Maria) had served admirably but in politics, sometimes we need to make changes.

“This is so that newer faces could be groomed to take over while the seniors act as advisers,” he said.

Anwar urged Petaling Jaya voters to give a convincing majority to Pakatan’s Petaling Jaya candidate Lee Chean Chung.

“This area is home to both low and high income earners.

“If Pakatan is victorious, it is proof that we represent the aspirations of all,” he said.

The Petaling Jaya seat will see a six-cornered tussle featuring Lee, Datuk Ezam Mohd Nor (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), Chew Hian Tat (Barisan), Datuk Theng Book (Perikatan), Mazween Mokhtar (Pejuang) and Independent Dr KJ John.
