GE15: Penang MCA's campaigning ends on a high note

GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA's campaign for the 15th General Election (GE15) has ended on a high note.

Some 400 people cheered in support as they listened to speeches at the Barisan Nasional mega ceramah at the Penang Chinese Town Hall here on Friday (Nov 18).

Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said there was a lot of young blood from the party contesting in GE15.

"When we fielded these young and passionate candidates, we knew that they had the energy to make a difference.

"We should give them a chance to perform and serve the people," he said.

He added that Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) has always been at the heart and soul of MCA.

"Many people received their education in UTAR.

"Many Chinese communities supported the building of UTAR. They raised funds in every way possible for the building fund.

"We have produced many talented people who were offered high-paying jobs. They are now giving back to society," he said.

Penang Barisan chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir urged voters to give an opportunity to their candidates to be MPs to be their voice in Parliament.

"We will work hard to make your votes worth it," he said.

Bayan Baru Barisan candidate Saw Yee Fung, 33, said she chose to be a politician despite knowing the difficulties that she might face.

"Tonight (Nov 18) marks the end of our campaigning period.

"It is going to be a tough and challenging journey but we need someone to make a change.

"Instead of complaining, I decided to take the lead to understand the people's pleas and do the right thing.

"We need to ensure there are checks and balances for the government.

"Being new blood, I hope the people can give us time and support us to walk the talk," she said.

Barisan's Tanjong candidate Tan Kim Nee urged the people to support MCA so that the candidates can make a change for the people.

Meanwhile, Bukit Gelugor candidate Wong Chin Chong said he was touched to have received encouragement and support from people he met during his walkabouts.

Penang MCA secretary Yeoh Chin Kah said the people's vote is important to determine who runs the government for the next five years.

Penang Barisan Youth chief Lim Swee Bok said Penang MCA had fielded new and young candidates for the 15th General Election.

"We should give them an opportunity to serve the people," he said.

Also present was former MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

There are six MCA candidates being fielded in Penang's parliamentary seats.
