PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) has outlined his four main commitments, including upholding the integrity of the country’s administration and uniting the “Malaysian Family, if he is given the opportunity to lead the country again.
In a special address, he said since he took over the country’s administration on Aug 21 last year, it had not been an easy time for him.
He said he was sworn in as the third prime minister within the same term, adding that the transition of three governments in a three-year period was a “dark episode” in the country’s history.
Ismail Sabri said he had four main commitments if given the chance to lead the administration again.
The first is to unite the country for the betterment and the welfare of the Malaysian Family, and the second is to cultivate economic prosperity and national development.
The third is to preserve the sanctity of Islam without sidelining other religions, in line with the Federal Constitution.
The fourth is to uphold the integrity of the country’s administration.
During a television interview on Tuesday, the Prime Minister had also said he wants to lead a lean Cabinet, comprising individuals with different backgrounds, experience and expertise, and not just politicians.
There were 32 Cabinet members (including the prime minister) along with 38 deputy ministers when Ismail Sabri took the helm of the federal administration last August.
“I want to create an administrative team that is strong, capable, visionary, knowledgeable and creative,” he added.
Ismail Sabri said the country was still facing the Covid-19 pandemic, which at one stage had daily cases in the tens of thousands, killing hundreds of people every day and almost causing the collapse of the healthcare system.
On top of that, at the time the country was also facing an economic crisis, with a high rate of unemployment as well as businesses that were forced to shut down.
“Based on that awareness and commitment, I launched Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) initiatives.
“Over the course of 15 months, we achieved a lot of success, in particular 15 major initiatives that included all aspects of the well- being of Keluarga Malaysia.
“Today, the situation has improved and we are able to move forward, but there is still much that we need to do to become a nation that is strong together and is respected again on the world stage.
“On Nov 19, Keluarga Malaysia will carry out its responsibility to ensure that this country continues to be administered well,” he added.
Malaysians will go to the polls for GE15 tomorrow.
Ismail Sabri has been the Bera MP since 2004. In GE15, he is defending the seat against Abas Awang of Pakatan Harapan and Asmawi Harun of Perikatan Nasional.
