BERA: Disaster and security-related agencies have been directed to be on alert for flash floods so that assistance can be swiftly extended to those in need, says the caretaker Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also issued similar orders to state and district management committees, directing them to be on high level alert for floods.

The Prime Minister’s directive came after several areas in various states were inundated by floodwaters.

He said agencies should be in a full state of preparedness to act swiftly and appropriately to ensure public safety.

“Orders have been issued including to police and fire departments. In fact, all state and district disaster management committees have been activated.

“I am concerned and I don’t want the incident that occurred in Taman Sri Muda [in Selangor last December] to happen again.

“I want all agencies to be on alert,” he told reporters after attending a unity programme at Dataran Kerayong here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Ismail Sabri was asked about the floods reported to have hit several areas in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Melaka, Kelantan and Johor following a downpour.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (Met-Malaysia), several states are expected to experience rain on the morning of polling day, with thunderstorms expected to hit in the evening.

Among states expected to experience early morning rain are Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and the western part of Johor, while Kelantan and Terengganu are expected to experience continuous rain throughout the day.

On another issue, the Prime Minister said the shadow Cabinet poster that went viral on social media is part of the psychological war waged by Barisan Nasional’s opponents.

He said these opponents had to resort to such tactics because they have no “product” to sell to voters.

“As far as Barisan is concerned, we want to focus on winning GE15,” he added.

Ismail Sabri was commenting on a poster that was making its rounds on social media, showing a list of leaders of a coalition government from Barisan and Pakatan Harapan.

He called on voters not to be influenced by such propaganda and instead listen to explanations from Barisan based on facts and its track record.
