ALOR SETAR: An elderly woman was shocked after discovering that her identity was used to cast a vote at the Kota Sarang Semut polling centre.
Zaleha Abdul Rahman, 75, said she was disappointed as she was looking forward to casting her ballot and exercising her right as a citizen.
"I was so pumped up this morning and getting ready to vote but this happened,” she told a press conference at Jalan Stadium here.
The housewife said she went to the polling centre with her daughter Zuliza Ramli, 35, and arrived at 9.55am on Saturday (Nov 19).
She said after registering at the centre, she was given a piece of paper indicating her voting channel.
However, she said one of the Election Commission (EC) officers told her that her identity had been used by someone else to vote.
She said EC personnel checked her name and identity card several times but the outcome was still the same, and her status was marked as "voted".
"I am disappointed as this is the first time it has happened to me," she said, adding that the authorities should investigate to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
She also hoped police would investigate the matter thoroughly.
Kedah police chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad, when contacted, confirmed that a report has been lodged and the case is being investigated under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act 1954.
