PETALING JAYA: Google has set its landing page to display a folded vote being dropped into a ballot box labelled with the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the 15th General Election (GE15) on Saturday (Nov 19).
The ballot box replaces the second "O" in "Google".
Visitors to google.com.my will see a little explanation once the ballot box is clicked.
"The 2022 Malaysian general election, formally the 15th Malaysian general election, is scheduled to be held on 19 November 2022 to elect the members of the Dewan Rakyat in the 15th Parliament of Malaysia. 221 seats in the Dewan Rakyat will be contested during the election," said Google.
More than 20 million registered voters are heading to the polls in GE15 to elect representatives for their respective constituencies for the next five years.
Also held on Saturday is voting for the Bugaya state by-election in Sabah, which was postponed following the proclamation of an emergency to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Polling stations in Peninsular Malaysia will open from 8 am, and in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan from 7.30 am. In the peninsula the stations will close in stages between noon and 6pm.
A check of Google Doodle's archive showed that the GE15 doodle's reach is set to only show for those in Malaysia.
This is not the first time that Google has done this, as it created a Malaysia-only doodle for the 14th General Election (GE14) that was used on May 9, 2018.
In the GE14 Google doodle, its landing page was set to display a doodle of its letters "voting" in Malaysia's 14th general election on Wednesday (May 9).
The dancing letters are seen holding ballot papers and Malaysian flags, while the middle G was replaced by a ballot box labelled with the Jalur Gemilang.
