GEORGE TOWN: Sisters Lee Jia Yi, 21 and Lee Jia Ying, 23, were happy to be carrying out their duties as Malaysians voting for the first time.

Jia Ying, who is studying material engineering, said it was a great experience and felt like something she was meant to do.

"I believe we must go out to vote as it is important for our future.

"As a first time voter, I believe the youth needs to have a voice as choosing the right government will decide many things about our future," she said when met at SMK Sungai Ara, in Bayan Baru, Penang on Saturday (Nov 19).

Jia Ying was joined by her sister Jia Yi, who came from Kampar, Perak, to vote.

"I am studying there and came back to vote.

"I will be heading back tomorrow as this trip is just to vote.

"It was a fast process, as we only waited around half an hour before voting.

"I am glad I was able to cast my vote as I believe our voice counts.

Jia Yi said she learnt about politics from her parents, who have shared their knowledge with her and her sister.

The queue at SMK Sungai Ara was lesser in the afternoon but the scorching heat has not deterred voters from coming on to cast their votes.
