Sense of nostalgia for local Sg Buloh candidate who returns to old school with family to vote

FOR Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusoff, his trip to SK Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh on polling day (Nov 19) was a day of mixed emotions.

The Pejuang Sungai Buloh candidate was at the school in Bukit Rahman Putra, Sungai Buloh, where he pursued part of his primary education, to cast his vote.

Four of his family members were also there to cast their votes, namely father Mohd Yusoff Said, 67, mother Safiah Hashim, 65, sister Khairunisa Mohd Yusoff, 30 and brother Mohd Iqbal Mohd Yusoff, 35.

“There’s a sense of nostalgia in coming here to vote, as this is the school where I was named Overall Best Student in 1995.

“I met a few of my old schoolmates who were lining up to vote. I bumped into my old headmaster during one of my campaigning rounds, and he said he was very proud of what I was doing,” said the 39-year-old, better known as Komal.

As a father, Mohd Yusoff said he was very proud of his son and prayed that Komal would be a leader with principles and one who would look after people’s welfare.

“I hope he gets what he wants and is willing to accept the results of this 15th General Election, whatever the outcome,” said Safiah.

Mohd Yusoff said the family would be at home to monitor the GE15 outcome, while Komal will be at Perdana Leadership Foundation with other Pejuang leaders tonight (Nov 19).

“Regardless of the outcome, I feel like I already won. I am a newcomer who was nominated as a candidate a year after I joined politics.

“The people I met during my campaigning rounds have been supportive, more so after finding out I am a local boy,” said Komal, who grew up and resides around Sungai Buloh.

“I hope to represent the voice of young people, who form a large majority of voters in Sungai Buloh, as well as champion people’s issues.”

Sungai Buloh will see a seven-cornered fight this 15th General Election.

Komal will be up against Khairy Jamaluddin (Barisan Nasional-Umno), Ramanan Ramakrishnan (Pakatan Harapan-PKR), Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin (Perikatan Nasional-PAS), Ahmad Jufliz (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) as well as Independent candidates Syed Razak Alsagoff and Nurhaslinda Basri (Sifu Linda).

There are 158,090 registered voters in Sungai Buloh this year.
