PETALING JAYA: All chiefs and secretaries-general of political parties that won a substantial number of seats in the 15th General Election (GE15) have been asked to present a statutory declaration of the list of parties and names of MPs who have agreed to form a Federal Government with at least 112 seats, says Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
The Dewan Rakyat Speaker said they were also asked to name one MP who will have the confidence of the majority of the House to be named as the tenth prime minister, with individual statutory declarations from all the MPs involved.
In a statement, Azhar said this was in accordance with the orders of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah earlier on Sunday (Nov 20).
"In accordance with the orders of the King, I have issued letters to the party chiefs and secretaries-general that have won a substantial number of parliamentary seats in GE15 to present the names of parties and independent MPs (if any), who have agreed to join a coalition of at least 112 seats to form the Federal Government through a statutory declaration by party chiefs.
"They have also been asked to name one MP in the coalition who has received the confidence of the majority to be the tenth prime minister through statutory declarations by each MP in the said coalition clearly.
"These documents must be delivered to Istana Negara latest by 2pm on Monday (Nov 21)," said Azhar.
Earlier on Sunday, the King gave a deadline of 2pm on Monday for coalitions and political parties to form a government and present a candidate to be the Prime Minister.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King had tasked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun to consult political parties and coalitions which have gained the most seats to form the next government of the day by Monday afternoon at the latest.
