PETALING JAYA: Unlike the hype at Seri Pacific Hotel, the situation outside the home of Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Bukit Damansara remains calm.
It is in contrast to the large crowd gathered at Seri Pacific where Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan leaders were meeting to hammer out an agreement needed to form the government.
Talk is rife that unlike Barisan and Pakatan, Perikatan is confident of having secured the support needed to form the Federal Government and is waiting to hand over their list of parties and the names of the MPs and possible Independents who had agreed to an alliance.
However, a BMW accompanied by two other vehicles was seen ferrying PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang into Muhyiddin's residence at about 11.30am on Monday (Nov 21).
Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has since confirmed that the coalition has submitted statutory declarations made by newly elected Members of Parliament supporting Muhyiddin as the prime minister.
He claimed that Perikatan had submitted more than 112 statutory declarations to the King in line with Article 43 of the Federal Constitution.
On Saturday (Nov 19), Pakatan Harapan emerged as the biggest coalition in Parliament with 82 seats, including Muda, but is still short of the 112 needed for a simple majority.
The second biggest coalition is Perikatan Nasional with 73 seats while Barisan Nasional has 30, Gabungan Parti Sarawak won 22 and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah managed to get six seats.
Other parties won seven seats.
Istana Negara had initially set a 2pm deadline on Monday (Nov 21) for political leaders of political parties and coalitions that have won the most number of parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election to inform the King about a new alliance to form a government and submit the name of their prime minister candidate.
However, the King has consented to extend the deadline to 2pm on Tuesday (Nov 22) following a request for more time by Barisan.
