KOTA KINABALU: Overwhelmed by work-related stress, an interior designer put her career on hold to pursue her love for flower arranging and extend a helping hand at the same time.
Dolores Emylia, 21, is aiming to raise funds for the Bukit Harapan charity home here through her passion.
“After I had an anxiety attack, I was asked to take things slowly and focus on my mental wellbeing.
“Since I love flowers as they calm me and keep my mind relaxed, I thought why not do something fruitful at the same time,” she told The Star in a recent interview.
She then came up with the idea of selling flower bouquets for charity.
“After asking around, I decided to raise funds to help Bukit Harapan. I hope to raise RM1,000 for them,” she added.
Though slightly embarrassed by her modest target, she hoped the gesture could at least help the home's operators in some way.
“This is my first time doing something like this and I just hope people will support this cause,” said Dolores.
Dolores can be contacted at 017-8900118 or 014-642 4109 if anyone is interested to help her achieve her objective.
The Bukit Harapan charity home, situated along the Tuaran bypass in Menggatal near here, currently houses 41 residents comprising persons with mental or physical disabilities.
The residents, 21 female and 20 male, are aged between eight and 52 years. The home has 14 workers and can be reached at 088-424567 or 011-64374183 (the centre manager, Cecelia Sing).
