KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have been summoned to Istana Negara at 4.30pm on Tuesday (Nov 22) as no coalition has the majority following the general election.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that Istana Negara had on Tuesday (Nov 22) received information on the pacts of various political parties to form the Federal Government after the 15th General Election (GE15).
They were submitted by the heads of parties and coalitions that had won the largest number of seats in the election.
The parties and coalitions had also nominated their candidate for the 10th prime minister post as asked by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
"Following the nominations, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had started the process of verifying the prime ministerial candidate who has received the majority support of the Dewan Rakyat.
"This process is so that the King can decide and appoint a prime minister who commands the majority of the Dewan Rakyat as provided by Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.
"However, after the prime minister nominations had been presented, it was found that no MP has received the simple majority required to be appointed as prime minister," said Ahmad Fadil in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 22).
As no MP has obtained a simple majority, the King had consented for the heads of the Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional coalition to have an audience with His Majesty at 4.30pm on Tuesday at Istana Negara, said Ahmad Fadil.
He added that the King called upon and advised all Malaysians to be patient and calm until the process of forming a new Federal Government and appointing a new prime minister has been completed.
"His Majesty called upon all the people to pray for the country and the people to always be blessed and protected from disasters and calamities," said Ahmad Fadil.
