Media barred from entering Anwar's residence

PETALING JAYA: Media practitioners were barred from the vicinity of Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's residence on Tuesday (Nov 22) morning.

This was conveyed by the security guard on duty that he was directed to do so.

The guard, who declined to identify himself, apologised for not giving permission to the media.

"I am sorry, you can't enter, we are just doing our duty," Sinar Harian quoted the guard as saying.

"The media was allowed in yesterday, but not today," he added.

There were some media practioners who were there as early as 5pm around the vicinity of the main entrance of the residence of the Pakatan chairman.

The press has been camping outside Anwar’s residence as early as 5am to follow the latest political developments on the formation of the government.

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that no single coalition or party has garnered over 50% of the 220 parliamentary seats contested in the GE15.

Pakatan and its allies polled the highest number of seats with 82, but still fell short of the 112 magic number needed to form the simple majority in Parliament.

Perikatan came in second at 73 seats followed by Barisan Nasional at 30.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) snapped up 22 seats, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) had six seats while Parti Warisan Sabah won three.

Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) won a single seat and so did the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM).

Two independent candidates also won.

There are a total of 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat but only 220 seats were up for grabs in GE15 as elections for the Padang Serai seat in Kedah and Baram in Sarawak had been postponed.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had consented for the deadline for political parties to submit on the coalition for the formation of a new government to be extended to 2pm on Tuesday (Nov 22).
