ARAU: Six members of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly took their oaths as state executive councillors before the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, at Istana Arau.

They comprised four assemblymen from PAS and two from Bersatu.

All signed their letters of appointment, which were witnessed by the Chief Judge of the Kangar High Court, Dr Arik Sanusi Yeop Johari and the State Syariah Chief Judge Jaidi Ahmad.

The four PAS exco members are Muhammad Azmir Azizan (Santan), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), Wan Badariah Wan Saad (Mata Ayer) and Razali Saad (Simpang Empat), while the two from Bersatu are Izizam Ibrahim (Titi Tinggi) and Megat Hashirat Hassan (Pauh).

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin urged the state exco members and elected representatives to focus on development in the state and forget their political differences.

The Perlis Ruler urged all parties to focus their time and energy on economic development to face global economic uncertainty.

“We need to focus on the economy to quickly recover like other states during the global economic collapse,” he said at the appointment and swearing-in ceremony.

On Tuesday, Sanglang assemblyman Mohd Shukri Ramli took the oath of office as the new Perlis Mentri Besar before Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.

Perikatan Nasional succeeded in forming the state government after winning 14 of the 15 state seats, in addition to the three parliamentary seats of Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar. — Bernama
