Lightning strike caused delay on Kelana Jaya LRT line, says Rapid Rail

PETALING JAYA: A lightning strike on a Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop (PIES) component at the Kerinchi LRT station caused the delay in train frequencies along the Kelana Jaya LRT line earlier on Tuesday (Nov 29), says Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd.

It said the lightning strike caused the PIES to be activated, resulting in trains from both directions being unable to pass through that part of the track.

“Our technical crew is currently onsite and conducting repair works. The glitch also caused trains passing through that route to be driven manually, resulting in delays and passenger congestion at several stations,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 29).

It added that free shuttle bus services were also prepared to ferry passengers from the Bangsar LRT station to the Pasar Seni LRT station, and from the KLCC LRT station to the Pasar Seni LRT station.

“Our operations staff and auxiliary police personnel have also been deployed at platforms to manage the crowds,” it said.

Earlier, RapidKL advised commuters to expect delays along the Kelana Jaya LRT line due to a technical glitch.

It said the frequency of train services at various stations between Kerinchi and Ampang Park would be at about 15 minutes after a train had to be taken out of service.
