JOHOR BARU: The Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (YKTLJ) should not be abused for commercial interests, says Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah.

Her Majesty said the purpose of the foundation was to help people in need, which was what her late son Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Jalil wanted.

"As his mother, I hope to execute my role as chairman well.

"The late Tunku Laksamana Johor and our family intend to help Johoreans who need cancer treatment.

"I will try to safeguard the foundation's good name – I do not want anyone to misuse its logo or name to gain commercial advantage," she said at the foundation's Rays of Light charity dinner held at the Persada Johor international convention centre here on Friday (Dec 2) night.

Raja Zarith Sofiah added that the charity event successfully collected more than RM1mil.

In the six years since the foundation's inception, the foundation has helped 3,078 cancer patients, with the total treatment and assistance valued at RM10.2mil, she said.
