BALIK PULAU: Glamping operators nationwide are encouraged to obtain a grading from the Tourism Ministry to increase the confidence of tourists, especially from abroad, to stay at their retreats.
Tourism Ministry Licensing and Enforcement Division secretary Roslan Mohammad said a grading from the ministry would provide many benefits for glamping (glamorous camping) operators, according to Bernama.
“The assessment and grading carried out by the Tourism Ministry on glamping operators would include safety, convenience and comfort offered to tourists.
“We also emphasise a number of other aspects, of which there are a total of 12 criteria that are evaluated subject to the location of the glamping site,” he said after presenting a grading certificate to a local glamping company in Teluk Bahang here yesterday.
Roslan added that the ministry was aiming to get more glamping operators to be graded in 2023.
However, he said they did not have complete data on all such operators across the country as the industry was still evolving.
He said that so far this year, two glamping operators had applied for the grading.
Roslan also understood that many operators were in discussions to apply for grading.
“The Tourism Ministry stipulates the main condition that glamping operators must comply with before applying to get a grading from us, which is that they must first have a licence from the local authority or local government.
“If they cannot comply with this main condition, the ministry will not be able to grade them,” he said.
