Umno leaders arrive for party’s first supreme council meeting after GE15

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno leaders began arriving for the party's first supreme council meeting after the 15th General Election (GE15).

The meeting at Menara Dato Onn on Thursday (Dec 8) night was scheduled to begin shortly after 8pm following an earlier Umno political bureau meeting.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani arrived at about 7.45pm and merely said it was a normal meeting when asked by the media.

Also spotted arriving were supreme council members Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin and Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim at about 8.10pm.

Earlier, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was spotted leaving Menara Dato Onn at 7.40pm.

Mohamed Khaled, who was recently appointed as Higher Education Minister, is believed to have attended an earlier Umno political bureau meeting and is expected to return later to Menara Dato Onn for the supreme council meeting.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh was seen leaving at 7.50pm after attending the political bureau meeting and returned to Menara Dato Onn, 30 minutes later.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said this would be the first meeting since six members were selected under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Cabinet.

The six are Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, Law and Institutional Reforms Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Khaled Nordin and International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

He said the Umno supreme council must remain as a guide and a check and balance to the government, and that there will be no compromise on that.
