SHAH ALAM: Police intercepted a drug syndicate making a transfer of methamphetamines worth RM13.26mil at the parking lot of a shopping mall in Putrajaya and arrested four men, including a college student.
This is the second time in a week that Selangor police have seized such drugs packed in refined Chinese tea packets.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said they conducted the raid at 1.40pm on Dec 5.
“The group was about to transfer the drugs to another transporter when a team from the Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department intervened.
“We arrested four men aged between 22 and 37 and seized 350 packets of refined Chinese tea containing over 355.75kg of methamphetamines from a parked Toyota Vellfire there.
“Following the raid and seizure we then conducted a follow-up raid on a condominium in Putrajaya and seized 23 plastic packets containing 23.09kg of methamphetamines,” he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.
He said the drugs were placed in a room of the condominium unit.
On Dec 3, a former ehailing driver was caught at a house in Bandar Sunway with methamphetamines worth RM6.14mil packed in a similar fashion.
The suspect in that case is said to have been recruited online and earning between RM7,000 and RM8,000 monthly.
Comm Arjunaidi said the 378.84kg of drugs seized in the latest raid were worth over RM13.26mil and meant to be sold in the Klang Valley.
“Our investigation also revealed that the drugs originated from a neighbouring country,” he said, adding three of the suspects had prior records for drug trafficking and other drug-related offences as well as causing hurt in a robbery.
He said two of the suspects had also tested positive for drugs.
“One of the four arrested is a diploma student at a private institute.
“We believe the syndicate has been active for at least six months,” he said.
The police also seized a Honda CRV, a Nissan Navara and a Tissot watch worth RM500, and frozen a bank account containing RM10,004.
The four suspects have been remanded.
“We are now investigating if this syndicate has any connection to the man arrested on Dec 3,” said Comm Arjunaidi.
