Man, 37, nabbed with drugs worth over RM3mil in Ipoh


IPOH: A 37-year-old man has been arrested after he was found with more than RM3mil worth of methamphetamine.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the suspect was arrested at a house around 1.40pm on Jalan Medan Ipoh on Wednesday (Dec 7).

"We first arrested him at a nearby street before he brought us to the house that he rented.

"At the house, we found 95 green-yellow packages that cumulatively contained 96.02kg of methamphetamine that is believed to be from the northern side of Perak," he said during a press conference at the Perak police headquarters (IPK) here Friday (Dec 9).

Comm Mohd Yusri said the suspect who worked as a bookie offering illegal betting activities also had a prior record involving drug abuse.

"We believe that the drugs are meant for distribution in Ipoh and Klang Valley.

"With the amount seized, it is believed that the drugs can be used by 120,000 drug users," he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded for seven days until Dec 11. He tested negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 that carry a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
