KUALA LUMPUR: Three Umno division leaders from Perlis and Pahang have been sacked for campaigning against the party during the recent 15th General Election. They are an Umno division chief and two Wanita Umno division chiefs.
Although no details were given on the trio, it is believed that the division chief and his female counterpart are from the Maran division while the other Wanita Umno chief is from the Arau division.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said besides campaigning against the party, the trio were said to have also smeared the party.
He said Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would be clamping down against members who berated or leaked vital information against the party.
“The president will no longer compromise with those who smear the party,” he said after attending a supreme council meeting at Menara Dato Onn here last night.
On Nov 13, Umno temporarily suspended the Arau and Maran Wanita Umno division chiefs for supporting candidates from other parties.
Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan was reported to have said that it was suspending the party posts and branch level posts of Arau Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shamsiah Yasin and Maran Wanita Umno chief Datin Seri Fatimah Kassim.
Umno had also earlier sacked Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, former Padang Besar MP Datuk Seri Zahidi Zainul Abidin and former Maran MP Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib for contesting against Umno in the election.
Last night was the first time that Umno held back-to-back political bureau and supreme council meetings after the general election.
Earlier, several supreme council members were seen arriving for the meetings, including Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
Also present was Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin but two other vice presidents – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid – did not attend.
Met after the meeting, Mohamed Khaled confirmed that both men were absent, adding that Ismail Sabri had apologised as he had to attend another engagement.
Meanwhile, several Umno leaders said they were in the dark as to the presence of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at the venue.
Accompanied by a female aide, the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was spotted arriving shortly before 8pm.
