PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry (MOH) has introduced the use of body cameras for its enforcement officers in a bid to ensure their safety and uphold transparency while on duty.
The matter was made official by Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who launched the use by the Public Health and Pharmacy enforcement officers here yesterday.
“The use of body cameras will also help retain the integrity and improve the image of the ministry.“It will also help ensure the safety and welfare of the enforcement officers,” she said in her speech during the ministry’s monthly assembly.
The use of body cameras is aimed at addressing issues such as threats, abuse, assault and even bribery which are often faced by officers during their enforcement rounds.
The implementation will provide appropriate proof or counter-evidence for the enforcement officers against various accusations during enforcement operations.
According to MOH, a total of 110 units of body cameras have been bought.
For phase one, the body cameras will be used in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Pahang.
