PETALING JAYA: The police welcomes the move by the government to buy body cameras for the force, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

"We welcome the move to expedite procurement of body cameras for the use of police mobile patrol vehicles (MPV) and motorcycle patrol units (URB) for enforcement," the Inspector-General of Police said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 14).

"We are confident that these cameras will strengthen the level of integrity, professionalism and transparency while on duty, as well as protecting the interests of all parties," he added.

On Tuesday (Dec 13), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said body cameras were a necessity and that RM30mill had been allocated for their purchase.

He added that the procurement process involved the Finance Ministry and hoped the process could be expedited.
