KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees has dropped in Pahang and Terengganu, while those in Perak, Kelantan and Johor remain unchanged.
In PAHANG, the number of evacuees dropped to 387 people yesterday morning, compared to 435 on Tuesday night, with 210 of them taking shelter at relief centres in Temerloh, Pekan and Bera.
The state disaster management secretariat said the water level at Sungai Triang in Bera is still at the danger level, while five other rivers – Sungai Pahang in Lubuk Paku and Sungai Luit in Kampung Subuh, Maran; Sungai Pahang in Paloh Hinai, Pekan; Sungai Belat in Kuantan and Sungai Keratong in Rompin – are at the warning level, reported Bernama.
In KUALA TERENGGANU, the state has fully recovered from the floods after the last relief centre (PPS) was closed at noon yesterday.
The state disaster management committee secretariat, in a statement, said the PPS at SK Atas Tol, which was opened last Friday, was closed after all the evacuees were allowed to return home.
“However, the state disaster operations room is still on standby mode since the northeast monsoon has not ended yet,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the weather in most districts in Terengganu was reported to be cloudy.
In PERAK, the number of evacuees remained at 147 from 39 families who are housed at four relief centres at SMK Abd Rahman Talib in Hilir Perak; Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai, Manjung; Dewan SK Slim River, Mualim; and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Tersusun Teluk Memali in Perak Tengah.
In JOHOR, the number of evacuees remained at 51 as at 8am yesterday, with Segamat being the only district affected by floods.
In Kota Tinggi, a Fire and Rescue Department team saved a senior citizen who was trapped in a lorry during flash floods near Sungai Lebam, Penawar.
Penawar Fire and Rescue station operations commander Abd Rahim Abd Rani said the 61-year-old man was rescued at 7.52am.
“The victim was trapped in the lorry (cargo compartment) due to the 1.2m-high floodwaters.
“The operations team rescued the victim using rope and the personal flotation device rescue method,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Sebana Cove Fire and Rescue station operations commander Noor Ikhson Shukor said four members of a family, including an elderly individual, who were trapped in their house in Kampung Muhibbah, Tanjung Serindit in Kota Tinggi, were also rescued.
“All victims are safe now,” he said, adding that the victims, comprising an 82-year-old man, a 56-year-old man as well as a woman aged 54 and a 13-year-old boy, were evacuated to a flood relief centre.
Kota Tinggi district officer Datin Paduka Hazlina Jalil said two relief centres were opened to house 15 families as at 11.30am yesterday.
However, she said the actual number of victims was still being tallied.
She said the water level in the affected area was now ankle-high and that light rainfall and cloudy weather were expected in some areas of the district.
