Warisan a thorn in Sabah govt's side, says CM's pol-sec

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan has been a destabilising factor in Sabah's politics since it lost power in 2020, says Ceasar Mandela Malakun, the political secretary to the Chief Minister.

He said Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal's recent statement accusing 19 former Sabah Bersatu leaders who quit the party as destabilising Sabah's politics was hypocritical, as this is what Warisan had been doing.

Mandela claimed that Warisan had been plotting to topple the Sabah government since 2020, just like what they did to the Sabah Barisan Nasional government during GE14 in 2018.

"Every now and again, they spread rumours that this assemblyman and that assemblyman are leaving the GRS-Barisan coalition to form a state government with Shafie as the chief minister," he alleged in a statement here on Thursday (Dec 15).

Mandela said it was unsurprising that Warisan was now questioning the legitimacy of the chief minister and the Sabah government.

He alleged that Shafie and Warian have been relentlessly attacking GRS and Barisan leaders, both politically and personally, in order to turn the people against Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the GRS-Barisan government is as stable as it has always been and there was no question about the legitimacy of Hajiji as Chief Minister.

"GRS is a party with 30 assemblymen plus six GRS-friendly assemblymen. Our partner Sabah Barisan has 17 assemblymen while Sabah Pakatan Harapan's seven assemblymen have thrown their support behind Hajiji.

"If Warisan is sincere about Sabah and Sabahans, they should play their roles as responsible Oppositions as best they can, rather than stooping to gutter politics," said Mandela.
