Batang Kali landslide: 53 victims rescued, death toll rises to nine, say cops


HULU SELANGOR: A total of 53 victims have been rescued so far from the landslide at a campsite along Jalan Batang Kali-Gohtong Jaya here.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah said nine victims have been confirmed dead so far, including a five-year-old boy.

"The Fire and Rescue Department has brought in K-9 units in the search for the 25 remaining victims.

"A total of 394 personnel from over 15 agencies are assisting in the search and rescue operations," he told reporters at the scene on Friday.

He said the landslide affected the river hilltop, farm view and riverside campsites at the Father's Organic Farm here.

"Our investigations show that visitors began coming to these campsites three days ago for camping activities and 94 victims were at the campsite on Wednesday.

"From the 53 victims rescued, seven have been sent to the Kuala Kubu Baru and Sungai Buloh Hospitals," he said, adding that the search continues for the remaining victims.
