Batang Kali landslide: Mum hoping daughter survived disaster

HULU SELANGOR: Hoping for the best but fearing the worst – Tan Ah Choe, 66, the mother of still-missing teacher Hong Mei Jing (38), is harbouring hope that her daughter is not one of the victims of the Batang Kali landslide.

Tan said she hoped that her daughter was sent directly to the hospital.

"I don't know how many people were with her or the exact details of her camping trip. All I know is that she had one in the area.

"In the morning, I was told that a landslide had occurred and I called the police.

"They told me to come and wait because they would be bringing the victims here," she said when met at the Ulu Yam police station on Friday (Dec 16).

She added that she had to prepare for the unimaginable if her daughter was indeed camping at the landslide area.

More than 90 people were caught in the landslide when it hit the campsite at Farmer's Organic Farm in Kampung Kuantan, Batang Kali in the wee hours of the morning.

So far, 16 people have been confirmed dead. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, led by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.
