Batang Kali landslide: Eight missing victims from Alor Gajah, says Melaka exco member

MELAKA: Eight of the missing victims in the Batang Kali landslide tragedy are from the Alor Gajah district here, says a Melaka exco member.

State unity, community relationship, human resource and consumer's affair committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem said the fate of the eight was still unknown as of 2pm on Saturday (Dec 17).

"The missing individuals from the state are from my Machap Jaya constituency.

"Their homes are at Machap Baru New Village and Machap Umboo," he said on Saturday (Dec 17).

Ngwe said he was currently at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor to get the latest developments on the victims.

"The incident has caused much sorrow to all of us in the constituency and we are praying for them," he said.

A relative of a missing couple said there was still no news about his brother Tai Chang Lin, 35, and his wife Yu Siew Pay, 34.

Tai Yi Wei in his Facebook post on Friday (Dec 16) said both of them had not answered his calls since Friday morning.

He said the two had gone to the camping site with a group of eight people from Machap Jaya New Village.

The 27-year-old said his family members checked the names of those rescued at Sungai Buloh Hospital but his brother and sister-in-law weren't listed.

"Hopefully, we will get some news about them soon," he wrote in his post.
