KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is a part of the unity government and the party's moves will align with that, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Asked if MCA had discussed the confidence vote Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would face in Parliament on Monday (Dec 19), Dr Wee said it had made a decision and no problem would arise.
"The party has already decided. We are part of the unity government, this has been agreed upon at the leadership level.
"When we have said that we support (the unity government), even though we are not in the Cabinet... our actions must be in line with what we said," he told a press conference after the party's 69th annual general assembly here on Sunday (Dec 18).
The assembly was held behind closed doors, but Dr Wee said this was not the first time, as it was also done in 2018.
A total of 1,033 delegates attended the assembly, with 18 resolutions tabled and passed unanimously at the party's annual general meeting.
In heeding the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree to support the unity government for the sake of political stability, MCA passed key resolutions on party affairs, politics, the economy, education and government.
The party affairs resolution called on MCA's two elected Members of Parliament, three senators and seven state assemblymen to each play their role, stay true to principles, and voice out matters for the people without fear or favour.
The party also resolved to strengthen its cadre training and reignite the spirit of multiracialism and multiculturalism.
