Batang Kali landslide: Rescuers to work through the night in race to locate victims

PETALING JAYA: The search and rescue mission for the nine victims still missing after the Batang Kali landslide will continue through the night with authorities zooming in on five locations in sectors A and C.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operation) Hafisham Mohd Noor said the five locations have been identified to contain "foreign objects".

"Tonight's search and rescue mission will focus on the five areas identified by the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (Jupem) and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

"Jupem's Ground-Penetrating Radar has traced "foreign objects" (in the five locations), so our search will focus in those areas tonight," he said, adding that they would not be using the K9 dogs tonight since they have marked all five locations.

Meanwhile, Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah said they would reduce the manpower in order to minimise movement at ground zero.

This, he added, was to prevent any possible harm to the rescuers who have to work on the soft and murky ground.

Monday is the fourth day since the deadly Batang Kali landslide hit the Father's Organic Farm.

A total of 24 people have been killed in the incident so far.
