Batang Kali landslide: Search ops resume at 8am Dec 19, focus on Sectors A, C

HULU SELANGOR: The focus on the fourth day of the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation at the Father's Organic Farm campsites will be on Sector A (Hillview) and C (Riverside).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operation) Hafisham Mohd Noor said the SAR for the nine remaining victims of the landslide resumed at 8am on Monday (Dec 19).

"We will focus on Sector A and C with the assistance of K9 tracking dogs and excavators.

"It is a challenge for us today as the soil is soft and muddy due to the rain on Sunday (Dec 18)," he told reporters at the landslide site on Monday.

Security officers are also stationed at the SAR site to watch for any soil movement, he said.

"However, so far the risk is low, according to the experts.

"Based on our records, the land was 16m high prior to the landslide. The operation to dig up the soil will commence to search for victims who have been buried underneath," he said.

Hafisham hoped that Monday's operation will bring results.

"We were a bit disappointed that Sunday's operation did not lead to finding any victim.

"We hope we can find the remaining victims today," he added.
