THE small Indian community in Langkawi, numbering around 2,000 people, came together to celebrate the Sri Maha Mariamman temple’s Theemithi ceremony, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Theemithi is a firewalking ceremony undertaken by devotees to seek blessings.
The temple, which is located in Jalan Ayer Hangat, is one of the two main temples on the island.
Temple committee chairman Muniandy Subramaniam said the festival began on Friday with various auspicious ceremonies.
Following these, devotees who had taken vows completed the firewalking ceremony.
The chariot procession took place on Sunday with the final pooja carried out to complete the festival.

Chinmaya Murthy, 47, who is the headmaster of a government school in Karnataka, was also responsible to overseeing the hostel where about 30 girls were staying.
He was apparently in the habit of visiting the hostel frequently under the guise of inspections before harassing the students, touching them and showing them inappropriate videos on his cellphone.
