Batang Kali landslide: Search focus for nine victims on Zone C but no new leads

BATANG KALI: With nightfall falling on the fifth day of search operations here, the tally of missing persons remains unchanged at nine.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah, at a press conference at the Father’s Organic Farm landslide operations centre, said there had been no positive results Tuesday (Dec 20).

“Our focus was on Zone C which is the riverside zone. However, there has not been any positive outcome yet.

“We will continue until night but subject to weather conditions,” he said.

Operations will resume at 8am Wednesday (Dec 21) if weather conditions worsen.

He added that as of now, there were still two missing persons reports lodged.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said 11 excavators had been deployed at the search area.

“We had some signs earlier which gave us the spirit to intensify the search. Camp materials such as barrels and blankets were found and we did digging works there but it had negative results.

“Two K-9 dogs are also at the operation area. On Monday (Dec 19), we combed Zone A (hilltop) multiple times,” he said.

As of now, no new earth movement has been detected, he added.
